Labeling 101
I firmly believe that you can organize just about anything but unless it has some sort of label identifying what it is or what’s inside, you can’t expect it to last for too long. When you’ve labelled something, its not only telling yourself what is intended to go there, but its setting an expectation up for the other people in the household to follow suit. There are sooo many creative ways to label your belongings nowadays so I thought I would break it down to a few of the ways I like and why!
Paper label and pen. Yep, it doesn’t get much easier and simpler than just whipping out a sharpie and a sticky label and throwing it where you need it. I like the ones above from amazon and there are plenty of options online. There are also chalkboard labels which can be pretty cute (like the ones from Container store below) and an oil paint pen from Michales work well on those.
Brother P-Touch Cube Plus. This is the handiest label maker that actually works from your phone or computer. You can choose from tons of fonts and images to make it your own. The label tape is most affordable on amazon as well and comes in a variety of colours. The tape comes out quickly and easily peels apart to adhere to most surfaces. (Click on the image for link)
Silhouette Cameo 4. This is the cadillac of label makers (among many other functions) that can make any kind of label you can imagine. You can choose from thousands of fonts, colours, shapes, whatever you can think of and this machine will make it for you. I use this method most of the time as I find it gives an elevated look for my clients.
Below are some questions I get often when it comes to labelling:
Q: BEST TYPE OF VINYL TO USE?
A: After trial and error (lots of error!) I swear by Oracal 651 ( i order mine from amazon for the best price)
Q; WHAT ARE SOME FONTS YOU SUGGEST THAT ARE PRETTY AND MAKE IT CLEAR AS WELL?
A: My go to fonts on the Silhouette are; Gill Sans, miss katy, frosting, highscript smith.
Q: WHAT DO YOU LIKE MORE SILHOUETTE OR CRICUT?
A: I have never used a circuit so I can’t say but I hear great things!
Q: WHAT KIND OF LABELMAKER WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FOR OUR HOME?
A: I really like most label makers that Brother comes out with. I still have my Brother PTD400VP that i bring on jobs and use around the house as well. It’s easy to use and has enough functions for the average person.
